The history tab allows the user to view the history of changes they have made to their portfolio. The tab needed a front-end facelift to maintain visual consistency across the application.
I conducted a user survey to gain insight on how users are feeling about the experience. This feedback allowed us to direct our attention to what our current users want, and develop features that new customers will love as well.
Unified/aggregate view (shows multiple/all portfolios)
Filter by / go to / select date range
Allow multiple filters to be applied
Show amount held before and after each trade (without clicking on the asset to show individual trades)
Automation changes (more info, what was it and then what did it change to and how?)
The fact you need to click the down arrow to see full history. There must be a way to show all information in a compact format.
We were not allocated a ton of time for this project, so the UI updates were the main focus of the redesign. In future iterations, we will have the ability to implement more improvements. Even still, we were able to implement small feature additions: the aggregate view of multiple portfolios, date filtering, multiple filters, and before and after trade data features that the users asked for.
The starting point was actually not that bad, just at bit boring and needed to be brought up to the new design standards.
The application was also quite hard to use on mobile. it featured large data tables that overflowed into a side scroll. This is not the worst experience, but it is very hard to view the data in that format and some users complained about it being hard to use. In addition, each history item was hidden in an expandable by default. This caused a lot of annoyance with users because they had to click on each item to view it.
The tables were a huge pain point to our users, especially in mobile. I chose to implement a side sheet design that aggregates the data into card format. This experience is much better for the user because they can see each item clearly, without having to side scroll large data tables. This works exceptionally well for mobile users!
